Workshop on “Industrial Automation with Programmable Logic Controllers” (22 and 29 September 2016)

EEE department has organized a two-day workshop on “Industrial Automation with Programmable Logic Controllers” for III B Tech EEE students on 22 and 29 September 2016 in the campus. The workshop was scheduled from 09:30 to 16:30 Hrs. This workshop is useful for students for doing their mini and major projects using Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). The workshop was conducted by Zonta Academy & Consultancy Services, Hyderabad.

The first day (22 September 2016) started with an inaugural function attended by the Principal, EEE-HOD, Workshop in-charge, resource persons from Zonta Academy & Consultancy Services, EEE faculty and III EEE students. The venue was NB G04 (class room). In forenoon session, resource person Ms Anupama Pilla, Technical Head, gave introduction to PLC, covered history, classification, advantages and applications of PLCs. Students are provided with the information about various PLCs available in the market, softwares used, basic inputs and output syntaxes of Allen Bradley, Rockwell software of PLC. In afternoon session, students had hands on training on Rockwell software. For this, students are divided into two groups (1-34, 35-69) and practicals are conducted in NB G07 and NB 102. Ms Anupama Pilla, Technical Head, along with Ms G Tejasree, Assistant Application Engineer, conducted session for students in NB G07 and Mr Santosh Venkat, along with Mr Ravinder, Assistant Application Engineer, conducted session for students in NB 102. In this session, students were made to write and execute code for AND, OR, NOT, NAND and XOR logic gates. They were also given with some of the practical examples and made to write code for them.

The second day (29 September 2016) was completely hands on training. On this day, students dealt with timers, counters, comparing and computing programs. Students were shown how to interface PLC software with the hardware by executing simple program for switching LEDs. The Feedback was collected from all the participants. Overall feedback of the workshop is good. All the participants were given the participation certificates in the valedictory function at the end of second day.

Guest Lecture on “Practical Aspects of Generators in Hydro and Thermal Power Plants” (28-09-2016)

EEE department has conducted a guest lecture on “Practical Aspects of Generators in Hydro and Thermal Power Plants” for I, II, III and IV B Tech EEE students on 28 September 2016 in the campus. The guest lecture was scheduled from 14:30 – 16:30 Hrs at East Block 310 (Seminar Hall). The speaker was Mr K Ganesh, Senior Engineer, Turbine and Generator Services, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), PSSR, SAS, Hyderabad.

The guest lecture highlighted several practical aspects in construction of stator and rotor of generators in Hydro and Thermal Power Plants. The lecture started with brief explanation of components in a Thermal Power Plants. He has discussed about types of generators, gave detailed explanation of various parts in stator and rotor. He also discussed about excitation system, failures and testing of generators. Lastly, he explained hydro power plant components, turbines, generators and the differences between thermal and hydro power plants.

Workshop on HARDWARE TRAINING OF ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC CIRCUITS (12-08-2015 & 13-08-2015)

The 2-day Workshop organized by the EEE Department of Bhoj Reddy Engineering College for Women on the topic “HARDWARE TRAINING OF ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC CIRCUITS” on 12th and 13th August of 2015 was a good experience for all 65 students of III EEE, who have participated . The first day forenoon session of the workshop was dealt with “the basics of the components and introduction to Micro Processor and Micro controller” .The afternoon session was on “The Micro Controller I/O Port Programming using C Language” So they were able to simulate some simple circuits using the software. At the end of session students could solve a simple model using the Keil-IDE Proteus Simulation Tool Software.

In the second day of the workshop, forenoon session started with LCD interfacing (16*2) ,then Introduction to Hardware & its Soldering. Finally at the end, all ,the students who have attended the workshop were given certificates and cheque was handed over to Mr. Venkata Ramana Director of “TANTRA AUTOMATION”. The Feedback from the students was collected.

So from the feedback we observed that the workshop has given necessary experience on the Micro controller programming and hardware design, which is helpful for students in the mini and major projects .It was a good experience for all the III EEE-I Semester students and these type of workshops to be conducted in future so that we could inculcate new ideas in the students and develop them to involve in the projects.

Guest Lecture on Overview of 400KV substation and switchgear equipment (07-08-2015)

The Guest lecture organized by the EEE Department of Bhoj Reddy Engineering College For Women on the topic “ Overview of 400KV substation and switchgear equipment” on 7th August of 2015 was a great experience for all the students of II,III and IVEEE. This is the 1st Guest lecture conducted in this academic year (2015-16) and we found huge participation of students. The speaker of the day was Mr. Y. Rama Mohan, Asst. Divisional Engineer, TELANGANA STATE TRANSCO, 400KV Substation, Mamidipally, Hyderabad.

The guest lecture was started with the basics of 400KV substation and the equipments which will be used in substations. So they were able to know few concepts of how actually equipments are placed and what are the real time problems in substations.

The knowledge gained by the students could be used in their future .

The Feedbacks from the students were collected and they suggested to conduct the Guest lecture for more times. So, The programme has given necessary Information on the technical aspects of substation and switchgear equipment and this could be helpful for students in understanding Power systems in real time. It was a good experience for all the students.
